The Tranky Doo is the classic line dance created in the 1940s by Frankie Manning traditionally danced to the song The Dipsy Doodle. Full of classic up-tempo jazz steps, you will find people all over the word dancing the Tranky Doo.
This class is a two session class. The first class is on Nov 6, the second class is on Nov 13.

All classes are held at the Avalon Ballroom, 6185 Arapahoe Ave., Boulder

The Avalon is a vaccinated-only venue. All patrons must show proof of vaccination and wear a mask.

Mama’s Stew line dance class

Mama’s Stew Saturday, October 30, 2021 2-3:10 PM $10

The Stew is a vintage warm-up choreography used by Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers. It combines many classic swing jazz moves into a fun, fast moving dance. The routine is called the Mama’s Stew after Mama Lu & The Parkets.

Shim Sham line dance class

Shim-Sham Saturday, October 23, 2021 2-3:10 PM $10

The Shim Sham is the swing line dance version of the classic 1920’s tap routine, adapted and created by Frankie Manning’s for swing dancers. The Shim-Shim is danced at swing dances around the world. Come learn this classic line dance and join in the fun when we dance it in swing dances at the Avalon Ballroom!

Boulder Swing Dance Classes

Our inclusive and friendly beginner classes run in a 4-week progressive series on Monday nights at 8 p.m. in the Avalon Ballroom. We offer 3 levels for you to refine your lindy hop skills! No partner necessary as we rotate partners in class (you also have the option to opt-out of rotating).

A new series begins at the start of the month. If you miss week 1 you can still start in week 2 of our Level 1 series. Sign-up in advance at www.boulderswingdance.com!

Monday schedule:
6:45-7:45 – Level 1.5
7:45-8:00 – Practice time
8:00-9:00 – Level 1 & Level 2
9:00-9:15 – Practice time

Prerequisites: 
Level 1 prerequisites: none!
Level 1.5 prerequisite: Level 1
Level 2 prerequisite: 3 months of Level 1.5

Cost:
Level 1: $50 when pre-registering online
Level 1.5: $60 when pre-registering online
Level 2: $60 when pre-registering online

We’re excited to present two ways to enjoy this fabulous concert/dance party: live-streamed on YouTube AND live and in-person at the Avalon—both on Saturday, June 12, at 7 pm!

  • To attend the live, in-person dance, come to the Avalon Ballroom at 6185 Arapahoe in Boulder on June 12. The dance goes from 7 to 9:30 pm. Join us! Details: This is a “vaccinated dancer” event. Vaccination required for admission. Minimum $5 donation per dancer suggested. Masks are not needed on the dance floor, but are required in common areas (including bathrooms) of the Avalon (Avalon policy). Bring dance shoes that won’t leave marks on the wonderful sprung hardwood floor. No pre-registration needed. Volunteer help needed: door, set-up, take-down… Contact Tom below
  • To watch and listen on YouTube, please register in advance at this link. The livestream is free. You’ll receive a confirmation email with a link to the concert, which will be from 7 to 8 pm (one hour only) on June 12.
