About the Classes

Swing Rueda
This fun community dance based on the Lindy Hop has couples exchanging partners in unison following called moves.
If you do not know the basic Lindy swing out, then come to our Lindy Hop crash course right before the Swing Rueda class.

Lindy Hop Crash Course
For those taking the Swing Rueda class who don’t know the Lindy Hop, this course will teach you the basic steps of the Lindy Hop so you can easily join our Swing Rueda class!

Shim Sham
The Shim Sham is a classic swing line dance from the 1930s and danced at swing dances around the world! Come join in as we dance the Shim Sham at the Avalon swing dances!

Mama’s Stew
A face-paced, easy to learn jazz step warm up routine used by Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers to warm up before practicing their routine. It is named after the famous Mama Lu Parks who danced it with her ‘Parkets’. Come dance the Stew at our Avalon swing dances!

Tranky Doo
One of the original swing-era jazz routines created by Frankie Manning for his Cangaroos Dance troop and named in tribute to the chorus girl who’s signature move inspired it.

By the Way!
