30 November 2019
Dixie Leadfoot and “The Chrome Struts”
A small but powerful Rockabilly band fronted by Suzannah Harris – bassist and a tremendous singer. Suzannah was a vocalist with the late, great Frank Zappa. Though the most visibly obvious thing about Suzannah’s performance is her facility with that upright bass, it is her voice that is her best instrument. She sings all night and it is really great! Super-great! Dancers respond with great enthusiasm. This ensemble has been very popular at every one of their Avalon appearances. And now – for the first time at The Avalon – Suzannah will be joined by her similarly powerful vocalist-husband, Bob Harris, of The Bringers of Swing! This will be a terrific dance. Please join us!
Admission: $15 per person general; $10 students with I.D.; volunteers free.
Children $10 only with responsible adult in charge.
Cash or check at the door.
No reservations required.
Light snacks provided. There is a coat room.
All ages welcome. No partner or dance experience required.
Please wear non-marking shoes. Dress to express yourself! Casual is fine; dressing up is also great.
The Avalon Ballroom is Colorado’s premier social dance venue, with a large cushioned oak dance floor, excellent audio, and smooth acoustics.
We are known for our welcoming attitude and community spirit.
Gender-balance tends to be quite good.
For weather and other scheduling alerts see the Event Calendar; we rarely cancel a swing dance due to weather.

The third Saturday swing dances mainly feature classic, big-band-era styled orchestras and their modern offshoots.
The fifth Saturday swing dances generally feature dance bands of somewhat different styles, but still swing.
Our dances focus mostly on what is generally called six-count swing, not heavily oriented towards lindy-swing.
Our bands generally also play a few dance numbers each evening in other couples-dance styles; cha-cha-cha, waltz, ballads, rumba, and etcetera.
This swing series is sponsored by American Vernacular Dance, a member group of the Boulder Dance Coalition.
