Scandinavian Polska Basics Class
October 10 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 7:30 pm on Monday, repeating until October 11, 2022
PERFECT your PIVOT, HONE your HAMBO, SHARPEN your SCHOTTIS !!
Starting September 19, Monday Night Scandinavian Dancing will offer a series of classes focusing on basic Scandinavian couple dance skills and accessible, fun dances. Learn the secrets of maintaining your own balance while connecting with your partner and turning effortlessly. The best part is, Scandinavian couple dance skills transfer to most other couple dance forms, so you will not only be learning new dances, you will be enhancing the ones you already know!
We will begin with Telegangar, a Norwegian walking dance that is reminiscent of country swing in a relaxed tempo, and introduce pivots, one of the basic building blocks of Scandinavian turning dances. Pivots are also very useful in waltz and other couple dances. In the following weeks we will add schottis, basic Swedish polska, stigvals, hambo and Rørospols. The classes will build on each other, week to week, so it is important to come regularly. Drop in or occasional attendance will not work at the beginning level.
Sodal Hall at the Avalon, 6185 Arapahoe Rd, in Boulder. Teaching is from 7:30 – 8:30, followed by open dancing $7 per evening.
We usually have live music, on fiddle, nyckelharpa and button accordion. You don’t need to bring a partner. Hard-soled shoes are required because they allow one to pivot smoothly on the floor. For more information contact Nancy at firstname.lastname@example.org or 303-499-7262.
Our Covid Policy requires full vaccination and at least one booster. Though we will not require masks, summer dance events have shown that masks significantly decrease the chance of getting Covid. Many of us will be wearing masks.
